James and the Giant Contest

September 3, 2016

It's contest time again and that means it's time to get creative! In celebration of Roald Dahl's 100th birthday, we will be giving away a copy of the brand new hard cover edition of James and the Giant Peach. I'd like a copy for myself!

James and the Giant Peach was the first chapter book I read and one of the only books I've ever read more than once. James was the first boy in the 'cupboard under the stairs' for me. He had a bad situation and was bailed out partly by magic, but also by bravery and kindness and friends.

Roald Dahl never shied away from real problems. Death, poverty, being born into the wrong family. His books straddle a fine line which many children's book authors avoid at all cost. And that is why we are celebrating him on his 100th. May all of us grown-ups give kids as much credit as he did.

So, back to the the contest: Using the template above (click on the image and print out the pdf), have your kiddos fill in the blank of the title, James and the Giant ________. For example, I might do James and the Giant Sloth. Then (in any order) illustrate the book cover and write a synopsis on the lines.

Email it as an attachment to: adkinsn1 at gmail dot com OR send us a message on our Facebook page and attach it there. PDFs and jpegs are best. We will also accept entries by mail or in person. Send us a message if you would like our mailing address. Entries are due by midnight on Sunday 9/11/2016.

I haven't settled on my judges yet, but will mix it up for this contest. The winner will be announced on September 13th (Roald Dahl's birthday).

Some tips:

1. Use up as much of the page as you can!

2. Color your picture!

3. Be super creative!

The fine print: submissions may be posted to the Nick Adkins at Two Monster Books Facebook page and/or twomonsterbooks.com. By entering the contest, you are giving consent to do so. Of course, the artist will keep all rights to his or her creation! This contest is for children. What does that mean?! Use your best judgement. Kids come in a billion different varieties. Submit by midnight, Sunday 9/11/2016.
